The Battle Yellow console asks about £50 more than a standard PS5 Digital Edition and throws in the game — but there is no disc-drive and no PS5 Pro version. Existing owners get cover plates instead.
Sony has revealed the hardware tie-in for its biggest exclusive of the year. A Marvel's Wolverine Battle Yellow Limited Edition PS5 bundle, two limited-edition DualSense pads and a set of console cover plates were announced on the PlayStation Blog on 11 August. Pre-orders open on 19 August at 10am local time, and everything ships on 15 September — the same day the game arrives.
The detail that decides this for most PS5 owners is buried in the SKU name: the bundle is a PS5 Digital Edition. There is no disc-drive console in this design and no PS5 Pro bundle. If you already own a machine, the cover plates are the only part of this aimed at you.
There are two designs. Battle Yellow takes its colour from the Battle Reborn suit Insomniac has been showing in trailers — a bold yellow finish with slashed cuts across the panels and transparent sections that show the console's innards underneath. Adamantium is the same idea in a metallic finish, meant to read as the metal bonded to Logan's skeleton.
The artwork behind both is credited to the Scottish comics artist Jock, who also drew the game's key art. "I'm stunned by how well the console and accessories captured the raw energy of the drawing," he said in Sony's announcement post — the only quote attached to the reveal.
The full line-up is six products: one console bundle, two controllers and three cover sets. Only the Battle Yellow design gets a console bundle.

European pricing is €649.99 for the bundle, €84.99 per pad and €74.99 per cover set; the Japanese figures Sony listed are ¥96,980, ¥12,480 and ¥9,980.
The bundle looks better than the sticker suggests once you check it against Sony's own shelf price. A standard PS5 Digital Edition is listed on PlayStation Direct at £519.99 in the UK and $599.00 in the US. That puts the Wolverine bundle at roughly £50 / $51 more — and for that you get a limited-edition DualSense that Sony is selling on its own for £74.99, plus a download code for the game, which GameSpot pegs at $70 in the US for the standard edition. On the face of it that is £80-odd of content for £50.
That maths only works if you were buying a Digital Edition anyway. Everything else about this is a want, not a saving.
VGC reported plainly that the bundle exists only as a Digital Edition, with no plans for a disc-model or PS5 Pro equivalent. Sony's post lists no such SKU either. So if you buy discs — or if you were hoping to pair a limited console with the Pro's extra grunt — this is not the box for you, and cover plates are the workaround Sony is offering instead.
It is a defensible commercial call and a slightly pointed one. Sony has already confirmed it will stop producing physical discs for new games in January 2028, and a marquee exclusive shipping its showpiece hardware in digital-only form is exactly the direction of travel that decision implies. Anyone who still wants Wolverine on a disc can buy the game physically — retail pre-orders are live — and run it on the console they already own.
The other absence worth noting: GameSpot reports that Insomniac has confirmed there is no physical Collector's Edition of the game at all. This bundle, plus the standard and Digital Deluxe editions, is the whole offer.
The cover plates are the sensible purchase for anyone who already owns a PS5, which is most of the people reading this. At £64.99 a set they clip onto the console you have and get you the same design as the bundle without a second machine in the cupboard.
One quirk in the line-up: per Gematsu's product list, Battle Yellow covers are available for both the standard PS5 and the PS5 Pro, but the Adamantium set was announced for the PS5 Pro only. If you have a base PS5 and prefer the metallic look, Sony has not announced a version that fits your console. That may simply be how the range is built, or it may be an omission that gets corrected at pre-order; we would not assume the latter.

Pre-orders open 19 August at 10am local time. Sony says the hardware will be sold through direct.playstation.com in the US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Austria, plus "select retailers" elsewhere — and that quantities are limited.
"Limited" is Sony's word, not a number. Recent PlayStation limited editions have sold through their first allocation quickly, and the Wolverine covers in particular are the kind of low-cost, high-demand item that tends to vanish inside an hour. If you want one, treat 10am on the 19th as the moment rather than the window, and be sceptical of any listing above RRP in the days after.
Two gaps are worth keeping in view before you commit money.
First, which edition the bundled code unlocks. Sony's post says the bundle includes a game code and stops there. GameSpot has the game at $70 standard and $80 for a Digital Deluxe that adds extra content, and nothing in the announcement says which of those is in the box. The standard edition is the reasonable assumption; it is still an assumption.
Second, sterling and euro pricing for the game itself has not appeared in anything we can verify, so we are not converting the dollar figure and presenting the result as a price. Check the store listing on the day.
Both matter because they change the value calculation above by £10 or so in either direction. Neither changes the headline conclusion.
This is a well-judged bundle at a fair premium, aimed squarely at people buying their first PS5 for Marvel's Wolverine on 15 September. Fifty pounds over the standalone Digital Edition for a limited pad and the game is the best value Sony has offered on a themed console in a while.
For everyone else, the honest answer is the cover plates. They are £64.99, they fit the console you already own, and they get you the same design without an argument about disc drives.
